Overview
HandsOn San Diego partnered with WaveMark Media to create an evergreen organization overview video that clearly explains their mission, how they connect volunteers with local nonprofits, and how people can get involved.
The goal was to produce a concise, engaging video that introduces the organization to new audiences while visually demonstrating the impact of volunteerism across their network. The final piece was designed to be flexible and usable across their website, presentations, and digital channels.
Objectives
Showcase HandsOn San Diego’s mission and role in the community
Visually demonstrate volunteer engagement through real partner events
Explain how the volunteer calendar tool works and lowers barriers to entry
Create a clear, accessible path for viewers to get involved
Develop a foundational video asset for long-term use across platforms
Pre-Production & Planning
We worked with the HandsOn San Diego team to define the core message and structure of the video, focusing on clarity, simplicity, and accessibility.
The approach centered on building a narrative that could:
Introduce the organization and its purpose
Highlight the challenge of finding volunteer opportunities
Show how HandsOn San Diego solves that problem
Encourage viewers to take action
We identified key filming opportunities, including volunteer events and in-office interviews, to balance leadership perspective with real-world impact.
Production
We filmed across multiple locations in San Diego, capturing both interviews and live volunteer activity.
Production included:
Filming at three volunteer events with HandsOn San Diego nonprofit partners to capture authentic b-roll of volunteers in action
Conducted on-location interviews at the HandsOn San Diego office with members of the leadership team and board chair
This approach ensured the video felt grounded, real, and reflective of the organization’s work in the community.
Post-Production
In post-production, we shaped the footage into a concise 1 minute and 21 seconds long video that clearly communicates HandsOn San Diego’s mission.
The edit combines interview-driven storytelling with documentary-style b-roll to:
Provide a clear explanation of the organization
Highlight the impact of volunteer engagement
Maintain a positive, approachable tone throughout
Music and pacing were selected to support an optimistic and community-focused message. The final video was optimized for use across the organization’s website and digital platforms.
Results
The final video provides HandsOn San Diego with a clear, engaging way to introduce their organization and communicate their value to new audiences.
The video is now used as a foundational asset to:
Introduce HandsOn San Diego to prospective volunteers and partners
Support website and digital outreach efforts
Provide a consistent, easy-to-understand overview of the organization
The HandsOn San Diego team confirmed that the video accurately reflects their mission and serves as an effective tool for communicating their work and impact. View their work at www.handsonsandiego.org/
Review and Feedback
Here is the Google Review we received from HandsOn San Diego’s Executive Director.
“We had an absolutely wonderful experience working with Kevin at WaveMark Media on an organizational overview video for our nonprofit. Kevin's friendly and professional demeanor quickly put our team members being interviewed at ease. His knowledge about video equipment, audio, and design shone through every point of the process. Kevin was always quick to respond and open to our feedback on each draft of the video. The quality of the video absolutely blew us away. We can't wait to share it on as many platforms as possible.” - Jessie Case
